High channel count electrode system to investigate thalamocortical interactions
نویسندگان
چکیده
A novel silicon-based microelectrode array with oneand two-dimensional variants was developed in the framework of the EUfunded research project NeuroProbes. The electrode array comprises complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor based integrated circuitry to implement the concept of electronic depth control which is used to select up to 32 recording sites from more than 1000 possible electrode channels integrated on four slender probe shafts. The electrode array was tested in acute experiments performed simultaneously in cortex and thalamus of the rat brain. In both brain regions good quality local field potential and multiunit activity was recorded during the tests. © Selection and peer-review under responsibility of FET11 conference organizers and published by Elsevier B.V.

Neurobiology of Disease Genetic Enhancement of Thalamocortical Network Activity by Elevating 1G-Mediated Low-Voltage-Activated Calcium Current Induces Pure Absence Epilepsy
Absence seizures are a leading form of childhood epilepsy. Human and mouse P/Q-type calcium channel gene mutations initiate a complex absence epilepsy and ataxia phenotype, and in mice, secondarily elevate neuronal low-voltage-activated T-type calcium currents. These currents influence thalamocortical network activity and contribute to the generation of cortical spike-wave discharges (SWDs) ass...
متن کاملCoupled perturbed Hartree-Fock method for non- Hermitian Hamiltonians
In order to investigate conductive properties of the system composed of a channel molecule and electrodes, a coupled perturbed Hartree-Fock method for non-Hermitian perturbation Hamiltonians is derived. A non-Hermitian perturbation Hamiltonian which describes interactions between the channel molecule and an electrode is given to represent inflow and outflow at the interface. The effects of elec...
متن کاملThree new scorpion chloride channel toxins as potential anti-cancer drugs: Computational prediction of the interactions with hMMP-2 by docking and Steered Molecular Dynamics Simulations
Scorpion venom is a rich source of toxins which have great potential to develop new therapeutic agents. Scorpion chloride channel toxins (ClTxs), such as Chlorotoxin selectively inhibit human Matrix Methaloproteinase-2 (hMMP-2). The inhibitors of hMMP-2 have potential use in cancer therapy. Three new ClTxs, meuCl14, meuCl15 and meuCl16, derived from the venom transcriptome of Iranian scorpion, ...

متن کاملEstimation of Thalamocortical and Intracortical Network Models from Joint Thalamic Single-Electrode and Cortical Laminar-Electrode Recordings in the Rat Barrel System
A new method is presented for extraction of population firing-rate models for both thalamocortical and intracortical signal transfer based on stimulus-evoked data from simultaneous thalamic single-electrode and cortical recordings using linear (laminar) multielectrodes in the rat barrel system. Time-dependent population firing rates for granular (layer 4), supragranular (layer 2/3), and infragr...
